In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” (Luke 1: 26-28)

Dear Friends in Christ,

When you hear good news, what is the first thing you want to do? Isn’t it instinctive to want to share it with others? In the gospel of Luke, Mary has just heard the news that she will bear God’s son and so she praises God! My favorite Christmas hymn is “Go Tell it on the Mountain” in which the writer invites each of us to shout the good news that Jesus Christ is born from the mountain top.

When Jesus comes the blind will see, the lame will walk, the deaf will hear, the lepers will be cleansed, the dead will be raised, and all will hear the good news preached to them. All this good news happens because Jesus has come! When we share the good news of God’s unconditional love, we are being faithful disciples.

This week as we get ready for Christmas, I invite you to shout the good news from the mountain top, or from your desk, the checkout counter, the classroom or the playground. Share with your friends, family, coworkers, teachers, and playmates the good news that Jesus Christ is coming!

Prayer:

God of all blessings, we wait for the coming of your beloved son Jesus.

Help us recognize the good news that he is coming brings and give us the courage and strengthen to joyfully share it with all your people.

Amen.

Blessing on your Advent journey,

Pastor Monica
