Dear Friends in Christ,
On Sunday our confirmation class and mentors will meet together for the first time. Confirmation is an opportunity for youth to decide for themselves (to confirm) the promises that their parents or guardians made on their behalf at baptism. During the Rite of Confirmation the confirmands will be asked to affirm their baptism into the faith and family of Jesus Christ, and promise to grow in their Christian faith and further Christ’s mission in the world.
We have two confirmands: Ryan Cardon and Savanah Bibbs. Each of our confirmands has been assigned a mentor. Ryan’s mentor is Richard Sandage and Savanah’s mentor is Susan Freepartner. The confirmands, mentors and I will meet after church in the choir room on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. One week will be a confirmation class with me and the other week will be a time for completing their Mentor Program. The Mentor Program has seven sessions (they need to complete six sessions). Each session includes a written assignment to be completed in their confirmation journal. They are also required to participate in six community service projects. In addition, they will lead worship with me in February and again in May.
On Pentecost, Sunday, May 31 we will confirm these two young adults. Once confirmed they are considered full members of Lynnhurst United Church of Christ with the same rights, responsibilities and voting privileges as our adult members.
I invite you to encourage and support Savannah and Ryan – they are our next generation of church leaders. Also, please pray for them and their mentors.
